Reporting a file that will not convert

This is the most useful kind of message, and also the one most often impossible to act on. Because files are processed in your browser and never reach us, we cannot see what went wrong unless you tell us. Please include:

• The source format and the conversion you attempted, for example HEIC to JPG.
• Your browser and version, and whether it is desktop or mobile.
• The exact error message shown next to the file.
• What produced the file — an iPhone, a Samsung phone, a desktop editor, a download.

Please do not attach the image itself unless you are certain it contains nothing private. In most cases the details above are enough to reproduce the problem with a file of our own.

Requesting a format

Requests are welcome. Two things are worth knowing before you send one: conversions to AVIF are not possible in a browser, because browsers can decode AVIF but not encode it. Anything requiring the file to be uploaded to a server is also out of scope by design.
